So . . . My life has been crazy these last couple of weeks!
Five days before my last post, we were told that our school was closing for a couple of weeks. We knew that staff was coming back on Monday but students were not. That next week, by Tuesday, we were told that we were encouraged to work from home. I still went into my classroom and practiced social distancing. We knew that we'd be out for at least six weeks. We jumped into high gear as a team and began producing material for our kids to use at home without us. We reached out to all of our families checking in just to see if they were okay. Not much discussion of work or anything really of that sort. It was very needs based and just making sure everyone was surviving. Many tears were shed by all as we mourned the loss of our school days. The next few weeks we adjusted to working from home and had our spring break only to find out that we are done for the rest of the year having kids in the buildings. We are now figuring out what our school lives look like for the next few months and how we are going to serve these kids and families to the best of our abilities in this wild and scary new time. My classroom is mostly unchanged from our last day in class and the school is mostly empty but I am inspired by the people around me every day and their resilience in the face of uncertainty! We are doing what we know and leaning on each other to learn new tricks every day to support these kids and families and I am so proud of us!!
